I've been slacking on writing every day, which was my goal for this year. Slacker!
Today's blog was going to be rather boring. It was one of those "nothing out of the ordinary happened so I will post a picture of some food. Thank goodness I eat every day." kind of days. So I took a picture of my afternoon snack, a toasted English muffin topped with homemade (by Jon) strawberry jam.

For dinner, I made Bulgarian Lentil Stew. It was a new recipe, picked by Jon, made by me. Quite good. It had lentils cooked with garlic and a bay leaf, onions, carrots, bell peppers, cabbage, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, rosemary, paprika, dill, wine and cayenne pepper. I think that was all the ingredients. The flavors were quite different from what we normally eat (dill, paprika, etc.) but it was good-looking and delicious!

But now, today's blog is not boring anymore. We had salad with our stew, and as I was nearing the bottom of my bowl, I saw something wiggle. I looked a little closer and then spit out my salad.

This little guy was in the bottom of my bowl! He had been tossed, scraped with a fork, and then drenched in salad dressing. I can't help but wonder if we ate part of his family.
We named him Earthy, because part of the brand name of the salad contained the word "earth". Unfortunately, Earthy is no longer with us. We took him out of my bowl and thought that maybe he would feel better not covered in salad dressing, so I put him in a bowl with a tiny bit of water. I didn't know what to do- I am a bit ignorant when it comes to the care of tiny green worms covered in ranch. He didn't move, so we took him out and he has been sitting on our counter for awhile, still not moving. Jon said the eulogy, and then we had a moment of silence.
Poor Earthy traveled all the way from California in that box of salad. It was either the happiest time of his life, surrounded by delicious food, or the scariest time of his life, stuck in a box and shipped across the country.
Earthy, you were a good worm. You will be missed ♥.
This made me laugh :) I'm afraid I would have been completely freaked out by finding a worm in my dinner!
