Our Trip to the Landfill

Today was our day to dispose of our tree and de-Christmasify our home. At our apartment complex, we are on our own for getting rid of our tree, so we took it to the landfill.

Our tree, stuffed in the back of the car. At this point, the poor tree is pretty bare. Instead of dragging it through the whole house, we took it to our balcony and threw it over, so she lost a lot of needles in the process.

I was pretty excited about going to the landfill. I was envisioning refrigerators, banana peels, and the like in heaping piles, with birds circling on top. How disappointed I was when we arrived and there were covered hills! There were a few spots, however, of open trash!

That's about as much trash as we actually saw.

We had to drive to "Area 5" to dispose of the tree. It was all yard waste.

Goodbye, our dear sand pine!

There she sits, waiting to become compost.

Our backseat after the tree was taken out.

What a fun field trip! I do wonder if they offer field trips for schools. I think it would be a great way to show kids what happens to our trash!

After we got home I attempted to vacuum all of the stray pine needles. Instead of vacuuming them, the vacuum just chopped them into tiny little pieces, and then died. Thank goodness Jon's sister, Klem-Mari, was coming over for one last visit before she heads home to Nashville tomorrow. She brought my father-in-law's Shop Vac and now our floor is clean.

Klem-Mari and I, my first non-inanimate object photo of the New Year!
