Gatorland

Today we went to...

During the months of March and April, teachers, along with one guest, have free admission. Neither of us had been in ages (I think I have only been once) so we decided to make an afternoon of it. We both ended up having a lot more fun than we thought we would - there is so much to do and see! I also couldn't get over what a gorgeous day it was. Being someone who usually equates being outside in nature after February to being hot, sticky, and having frizzy hair, I was taken aback by how pleasant the weather was. Below are a few (ha!) photos from our day as tourists.

Yay, here we are in the middle of the Swamp Walk. Trees, plants, and water moccasins, oh my!

The path along the Swamp Walk.

Wow! I don't think I have ever seen a peacock in person. He stood with his rump facing us the majority of the time, but would turn around every once in awhile so we could snap some pictures. I think he knew what he was doing.

We fed a few goats. This little guy was eager. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!

Also in the petting zoo. This was such a friendly little birdie!

Alligators!

Mama birds and baby birds. The first photo shows two baby birds, and the second shows three baby birds that are even smaller. I couldn't stand it. I wanted to take them home.

Emu!

Gator wrestling! This guy is crazy.

They have an aviary where you can feed the birdies for $1 a stick. They attack you! Here is Jon with the bird who decided to camp out on his shoulder for awhile.

White alligators. Their actual name is leucistic gators, and they are very rare. Apparently, there are only 12 of them in the world.

Tortoises and snakes.

The Jumparoo show. Those gators will jump for meat!

And last but not least, the quinoa and blueberry muffins I made tonight (this did not happen at Gatorland). Our blueberries were going to go bad any day now, so I decided to make some muffins. I have never used quinoa in muffins before, but I think I will more often from now on. They are very heavy, but delicious! Not too sweet, but just sweet enough. A tasty way to end a great day!
